a
Foundation of West Virginia

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Do you live in a community or know of a community that would like to discuss a project? Do you have a project that you would like The Foundation For West Virginia to consider?

Many times complex community problems can be solved by breaking the complex issue into smaller step-by-step tasks that can be achieved to reach a new level or goal. Each step brings your community closer to resolution of the problem.

The programs of the Foundation focus on building leadership at the local level by helping to manage the resources or strengthening the community leadership. Do not hesitate to contact us.

THE FOUNDATION FOR WEST VIRGINIA

“…the quality of the education of its children, the health of its citizens, the soundness of its economy and the intelligent use of its natural resources….”

WEST VIRGINIA – People and resources beyond imagination

If a quiz were held across the Nation, and one question was:

Which of the 50 States is most educationally distressed, most humanly disadvantaged, most natural resource disturbed? - Many would quickly identify the State of West Virginia.

Yet within West Virginia’s extensive borders lies a State of great wealth and potential; rich in energy resources; a major contributor to our armed services; a free-spirited, can-do, entrepreneurship attitude; plenty of low cost housing options; and, dotted with a number of small colleges and hosting three medical schools.

OUR MISSION – Bridging knowledge and resources

The mission of the Foundation for West Virginia is to bridge those two descriptions of the same State. Specifically, the programs of the Foundation focus on building leadership at the local level be it managing the resources or strengthening the community leadership.

OUR PROJECTS

Examples of Foundation projects include
The creation of a citizen base monthly forum in one community to encourage awareness and involvement in the issues that affect the community
Funding the first “giving circle” in the state that encourages citizens contributing to improving the environment;
Working with the Governor and others to endow the state park system;
Working with a private landowner to establish a center of higher learning.

OUR BOARD

The board of the Foundation is limited to private citizens that want to contribute back to their community and State. Board members contribute and participate as “prime movers” and project managers for each project. They participate in the selection and realization of the projects to assure success.

FUNDING

Projects are self-funded, that is, each project receives contributions for its own actualization. Projects are often multi-year in nature with little emphasis on probability of success. “Long-shots” are often the standard rather than the exception.

NEW PROJECTS AND REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE

Our board seeks out projects and does not solicit requests.

We welcome communication with individuals, organizations and communities looking for information on ways to achieve the overall mission of the Foundation.
